Upgrades and Proration
You can upgrade your plan at any time. You do not have to wait for your next billing cycle, and you do not pay a full month for a few days of use.
How it works
When you upgrade partway through a billing cycle, you are charged only for the days left in your current cycle, not the full monthly price of the new plan.
In return, you get the new plan's usage allowance for those remaining days. It is added on top of your current balance.
For example, if you upgrade with 2 days left in your cycle, you pay for 2 days of the new plan and receive 2 days' worth of its allowance.
When the full allowance starts
The new plan's full monthly allowance starts when your subscription renews at the beginning of your next billing cycle. From then on, you are billed the new plan's full monthly price.
A worked example
This is an illustration only. The exact amount is always shown to you before you confirm.
Say your cycle is 30 days long and you upgrade to a plan that costs $49 a month, with 2 days left.
- You pay for 2 days of the new plan: about $49 ÷ 30 × 2 = $3.27
- You receive 2 days' worth of the new plan's allowance, added to your current balance
- At the start of your next cycle, the new plan's full monthly allowance begins and you are billed the full $49
Good to know
- The prorated allowance is available immediately after you upgrade.
- Upgrading near the end of a cycle means a smaller charge and a smaller added allowance.
- If you use up the prorated allowance before your renewal, your full allowance becomes available when your subscription renews.
- Free weekly usage is available in addition to your plan's allowance.
Common questions
Do I lose what I had left on my old plan? No. The new allowance is added on top of your current balance.
Will my renewal date change? No. Your billing cycle stays the same. Only the plan and the price change.
Does this apply to crypto subscriptions? The same rules apply to the plan and allowance. Because crypto is paid manually, you pay the prorated amount at the time you upgrade, and you renew manually as usual afterwards. See Renew a crypto subscription.
